Green PC – Hard Drive Selection
I’m going to start off the Green PC Initiative with an easy selection to get us started: the hard drive.
I’ve selected a solid state hard drive as the HDD of choice for this project. Due to the lack of moving parts inside of this drive, the power consumption will be lower than that of a standard platter/head drive.
And since we’re going to be spending a higher amount of dollars for this drive, we might as well select the best, and go with a 64 GB Mtron Solid State Disk. Often regarded as the fastest disk drive around, it’s minimal power usage makes it perfect for both the environment conscious and the speed demons alike.
And now we’re off and running. It’s only one part, and it’s a slow start. But if you take an interest in this project, please post your comments/concerns below, and together we can make if not a “Green PC”, a much “Greener PC.”
Chip Reese
Just a brief mention of the passing of quite possibly the best cash-game poker player of all time. He passed away earlier this week and got a small article on ESPN.com, and the poker sites made mention of it…but I have not seen the true outpouring that a player of this caliber deserves. So, I’m making my small little contribution to his memory with this blog post, and I hope others with much more clout will do the same.
I…having never been west of State College…obviously never knew him. So, my knowledge doesn’t span past what was shown/spoken on television. But so many great players, including Doyle Brunson, give him credit for being an amazing poker talent…and I always found it interesting that he stayed away from the limelight. Clearly, he made his career in the cash games, but when he was forced to show up for a tournament (I once heard him say he only did tournaments when his children forced him too…to see him on TV) he was immediately a threat. Case in point…Mr. Reese will go down in history as the first Pros champion, by winning the inaugural WSOP $50,000 HORSE event in ’06. Very, very appropriate.
The poker world mourns.
My blog now (finally!) looks like the rest of the site!
Sometimes, it’s not how difficult something is, it’s how difficult it is to find time to accomplish it.
Found some time to log in a couple hours reworking my wordpress blog, and presto…now it looks like it belongs.
Hope you enjoy it!
