Confessions Of A Berson Mind

Decided to write a post about my MMS issues with the combination of TMobile, my HTC Touch Pro 2, Windows Phone 6.5.x, and Manila (Sense) 2.5.  For every ROM I’ve installed with these settings, I haven’t been able to send picture messages straight away.  Found a fix at: http://thewingster.com/mmsfixm25.aspx — that works great, but I also make a few alterations to ensure success.  Here’s my tutorial.

1.) Flash a clean custom ROM.
2.) Install the fix found on that link immediately after a soft reset. If you wait until after you’ve opened a few text messages or done some other things, you may run into a permissions problem during the install.  Soft reset, then install.
3.) At this point, your picture messages may already work — mine do not.  The next step I undertake is to go to the Messages tab in Manila, and hit the All Messages softkey.  Next, Menu -> Settings -> Options.  In this window, I flick to the bottom, and change the photo resolution to Original, and choose whatever size I like for the camera (currently XGA).  I do this to ensure my photos won’t be sent in micro.
4.) Click done.
5.) Repeat the Menu -> Settings -> Options step, but this time, hit the menu button in this new window, and select MMS Server.  Make sure the SampleMMSC is selected, and click on it (that’s two steps). Here, I change the “Connect via” option to TMobile MMS.  If yours already says this, congratulations.
5a.) I also set the Send limit to 300KB.  One, because I once read that TMobile doesn’t permit messages larger than that (doubt this), and two, because my mobile data is slow enough as is — I don’t need to spend 4 minutes every time I send a pic.  Click Done, and get back to your home screen.
6.) Last tricky step: click the Start Menu -> and Settings. Then Connections -> Connections. In this window, go to the “Advanced” tab, and hit “Select Networks.”  You should see a dropdown that has Tmobile Data already selected — hit the dropdown and select Tmobile MMS. Then, click Edit. In this window, hit the edit softkey, click Next, and change the Access point name to “wap.voicestream.com” (no quotes).  Click Next and then Finish. Click OK and you should be back at the Network Management screen.  BEFORE you leave here, hit the dropdown again, and RESELECT Tmobile Data.
7.) A soft reset isn’t probably necessary, but not a bad idea.

After all these steps, my MMS works great — I send receive no problems, the pictures send and receive at the proper sizes…these steps work for my phone across a multitude of ROMS, and it’s not that tricky.

Is it just me, or is YouTube on of the greatest inventions this decade?  I mean certainly, DVR/PVRs have made life a lot more entertaining with being able to manage your viewing content.  Hell, they created the term “viewing content.”  But, with something like YouTube, as long as the content provider is willing to play ball, a user community is supplying the entire world with pretty much whatever they’d like to see…whenever they want to see it.  How can you not love instant gratification?

Take for instance, an evening where a buddy and I were watching a hilarious show on TV.  Shows over, now what?  We’re still cracking up over stuff we had seen a few minutes earlier, and don’t really want to stop laughing.  We could play cards or Wii….but we want to laugh!  In walks YouTube, and we’re able to watch the 8 more episodes that night.  Or, like today, I wanted to watch the latest episode of High Stakes Poker…but couldn’t.  Damn DVR jumbled up the file, and I ended recording like…20 minutes of it.  YouTube’s got it locked down, with the entire episode ready to view online.  How can you not love it???

Plus, it has things like subscriptions, and a great tagging system to accompany it.  I subscribed to the dude who posted the High Stakes Poker clips…so now I can automatically find them later if I want…and, I also subscribed to every clip tagged with “Negreanu.”  So, if there’s ever a lack of good poker on TV…I check my subscriptions, and voila!  I don’t even have to search.

I don’t rave often…but how did we get by without this before?

Here’s the rundown:

For those of you who have been waiting, the CornfieldCustoms.com RC1 has been released.  Ok, yeah, so that’s major nerd speak, but what that basically means is that the site is complete, the content is intact, and that most of the bells and whistles are in place as well.  Every site that Berson3 releases will continue to evolve over its lifetime, just like the CFC site will.  In the coming months many images will be redone by someone who has a keen eye for photography and the education to match.  Yes, I know who that is, but I can’t tell you yet.  Also, the ability to purchase the parts (and maybe even bikes?!) online will be added.  We’re not too far from that right now, but payment handling needs to be decided first.

Cinn City Bake Shop.  It’s the project that won’t die, but also won’t fully start either.  Things are being juggled right now, and instead of having all the eggs in one basket (for a location) the eggs have been split up amongst a couple smaller baskets.  Vague?  Yeah, I know, but when it’s done it’ll make more sense.  In the meantime, I hope to be updating the blog soon.

And since this is the Owner’s blog, I can write about anything I want to right?  Well, then welcome to the fold, the newest Reber, Quince.  That link will take you to a page with a couple pics that were taken his first day with us, which was Saturday the 9th.  We have better pics that as soon as I’m less busy with real work, I’ll put up there, and then I’ll tell you about it here.  I think he’s pretty damn cute, and yes, i’m comfortable enough in my masculinity to use the word “cute.”

More news: Look for the relationship between AVG and Berson3 to continue to evolve!  AVG, Berson3′s choice for AntiVirus software, has extended the lifespan of their wonderful AVG Free product, and have updated it to version 7.5.  Things were looking pretty bleak when it was assumed that they would not re-up the existence of the free product, and that all of Berson’s current customers would have to switch to a less-powerful option.  Not true!  Version 7.5 is the best yet!  Not to mention the fact that Berson3 is now also a AVG reseller.  What this means is that you will now be able to select and purchase AVG products straight from Berson.  Also, you will begin to AVG advertisements adorning our pages (it’s always good to have a sponsor!) in which your clicks will help our site.  What would you buy from AVG?  The AV software is spectacular, but their Anti-Malware package is the best all-round protection software available.  It includes fulltime AV software that you don’t have to update or schedule, amazing Anti-Spyware software which is capable of doing in depth scans, and a full-time firewall.  The AVG way is to make sure you don’t have to mess with their stuff to make it work.  The Anti-Malware package is the ultimate in “don’t touch it” software.

Let’s see…where are we at with things?

Right now, the main focus is to move some antique plates!  I’ve had these things in my possession for far too long now, and they need to get into the hands of whomever desires them.  The page…www.berson3.com/plates got some major updating yesterday, and today I hope to add larger images, and also a shopping cart so that people may purchase online.

As a little sidenote to this, you may have noticed that the PC store is closed.  No worries, as Berson3 will continue to sell computers to the masses.  However, I wasn’t pleased with that store, and it also needed to go away.  The “Plate Project” will act as sort of a dry run for the new PC store which will hopefully debut by the end of next week.  Hopefully there will be some PHP and SQL incorporated into the new store, but if nothing else there will be some wonderful computers featured, including the brand new Intel Core Duo Extreme — the world’s fastest processor!

It may not seem like a huge accomplishment, but finishing in that position after the tournament actually began with 8600 people….to me, that’s a huge accomplishment.
